Great video to help with our understanding and explanation of the changes we will be seeing in the way we teach and how our students learn. At our eLeaders workshop today we had discussion about paradigm shift and how for many of us we will see a transformation in our thinking, which will lead to change and ultimately improvement and progress is what we do. I like the fact that the outside of the school 'normal' but what is happening is modern teaching and learning...and did you notice the armchair that is similar to the suite in the hall???
Stonefields School would be great to visit and watch what they do...great to hear students express how they feel about their learning and to see how engaged they are.
You have made a really good point about the transformation of our thinking, this is a crucial part of the process, like we have discussed, it is more about what happens in the room than what it looks like- the suite in the hall is fantastic ;-)
It will great for us all to research modern learning practice and begin to implement and explore teaching and learning methods that we have not yet ventured. I am finding the eLeader workshops and seminars really valuable.
Will be great..not it will great
I enjoyed this video. It relates more to our school with the restructure of classrooms. Its all good having the fantastic brand spanking new classes, but it is what is on the inside that makes the difference, By this I don't mean the fanciest gadgets or the stylish furniture, it has to come from the Practice that is being planned and taught in the classrooms. As a BOT, I think it is important to support ourselves and the staff with any PLD we can to make this transition the best it can be and to provide the opportunities for our children to be as successful as they can when they leave our school.
Absolutely Penny. The Board are a huge part of this process and the more informed and involved we all are, the better for everybody in the long run...especially our students.
Ahh now I understand the change in Weka lol I was rather shocked and didn't understand how the students were meant to work with only one small group of desks and so many children. It is great to see improvement from the old style of teacher at the front of class and students in rows all learning the same thing together so the teacher couldn't get time to zone in to individuals or small groups. I am however still slightly concerned thinking about how much time kids will be spending on the uncomfortable floor and hunched over. There was a shot in the video with a group of kids doing writing all looking so uncomfortable even with all different approaches to it, it makes it hard for me to think how much concentration could be put into work with you bodies not in a good position. The ache of extended floor time has already been mentioned by my child a few times. Can this be considered? There were also shots of bean bags and different height stations. It does look chaotic but I can see how this style can help engage children more than rigid seating arrangements. Exciting!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. You certainly won't be the only person wondering how learning is going to happen in the classroom with these changes you are seeing. Us teachers are also wondering what it will look like and how we will manage it. The great thing about our position right now is that we can experiment and try new things. If these don't seem to support and enhance learning for children then we can change it. What works for some children may not work for others. Exciting times alright.
It's great that you are noticing how we are embracing the different ways we can use modern technologies in the education of our students. It's the students who are keen to access an ever changing environment for their life-long learning journey.
And please rest assured we will be taking into account parents views and concerns as well. As Lee-Anne said, we are in a good situation now to be able to try things out and improve on what isn't going to work. everything comes down to 'Why' why do we want that furniture etc etc?
Might be a great time for an update. Lots has happened since the last post.
