DFI First Day

Unfortunately, I was away sick last week, so I missed the first day of the course. Fortunately, the agenda sent out also had links, so I did cover some of the content at home. We covered a lot today. Somethings I knew, somethings I didn't. I have learned so much today my brain is sore!

The session started with WWW and felt better when  I discovered what others had learned was similar to me.

We looked at Google Hangouts which are really relevant in our current climate and I think this will also be a great tool to connect to others in my team during times we need to meet. By using Google Hangouts we wouldn't all need to meet on site.

We looked at the Manaiakalani pedagogy of Learn and really unpacked what this means.

Four gaps which we need to focus on have been identified as:-

I took particular note of point 2 - discussions should be student to student not teacher-led.

We looked at  Google Keep - so much better than a notebook and a tool I will definitely be using.

We looked further into how to use the calendar more efficiently.  I now know a few more tricks and shortcuts here.

We also looked at how to better manage our Gmails and tidied them up.

Google Keep is another amazing tool and I can see how much easier this will make my life.

I now have another tool to keep track of all the tabs which I open and want to keep. Toby for Chrome is a way of organising tabs into some sort of order and creating folders.

We ended today by creating and recording our own hangout. This was a little confusing to start with as we had to open things in a particular order and we found this out the hard way.

Today was really enjoyable and I have taken in so much new information. I now have several tools to help make my life easier!
